Welcome to the Attendance Improvement Initiative Website!

The Chicago Board of Education has implemented the Attendance Improvement Initiative for the 2005-2006 school year to improve the system. The Initiative has a four-prong strategy:

  • Reporting: Reporting attendance on a daily basis.
  • Intervention: Utilizing resources such as parent/teacher conferences, telephone calls, correspondence and other means to maintain daily student attendance.
  • Adjudication: Referring students to the CPS Law Department for an adjudication hearing, should a student have 18 or more unexcused absences.
  • Incentives: Implementing incentives for high schools and elementary schools who meet their attendance goals and for students within these schools who maintain a high attendance rate.
