Terry Mazany

Terry Mazany

Terry Mazany was appointed interim Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Public Schools by Mayor Richard M. Daley on November 16, 2010.

Mazany comes to CPS with a distinguished career in education and public service. In 2004, Mazany was appointed the chief executive officer of The Chicago Community Trust. He rose through the ranks at the CCT, serving as chief operating officer and as director and senior program officer for the Education Initiative, where he led the design and implementation of the Trust’s initial $50 million, five-year commitment to improvement in Chicago schools.

Mazany, who has also worked in school administration in Michigan and California, received a Masters in Anthropology and a Masters in Business Administration, with an emphasis on organizational change, from the University of Arizona. Preceding his work in the public sector, Mazany enjoyed a career as an archaeologist and dendrochronologist — using tree-ring chronologies to date human settlements and develop past climate records.

Mazany will continue to serve as head of the Trust while serving CPS.
