CPS and the City of Chicago

One of the top priorities in the Chicago Public Schools and the City of Chicago is to provide unique learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. To accomplish that goal, CPS and the City of Chicago are always working together to develop new initiatives and programs that will help our students move to the next level of their education.

Below is a variety of City programs and resources for parents and children.

CPS and the City of Chicago

Programs

Chicago Book Clubs
Reading is fundamental. The City of Chicago’s book club programs not only make reading fun, but provide an educational tool that extends beyond the classroom.

Keep Kids Learning

Students take advantage of a broad array of summer school activities in addition to their academic programs. Keep Kids Learning schools provide a comprehensive summer program that includes academics and enrichment.

Chicago Math and Science Initiative

Every student has the opportunity to receive a first-rate mathematics and science education; and every teacher, parent and administrator is provided with the tools necessary to achieve that high-standard of education.

Chicago Reading Initiative
Our ongoing reading initiative seeks to ensure that students will function as readers, writers, and critical thinkers every day. We provide the framework and instruction to ensure that our students improve their reading and literacy skills.

Renaissance 2010

In June 2004, a new initiative was launched to increase the number of high-quality educational options in communities across the City by 2010. Find out more about the program and the new schools launched through this competitive community-based selection process.
