Office of Local School Council Relations

Overview

Local School Council Relations oversees and facilitates the operation of site-based management teams in each school, expanding all facets of communications with the schools, parents and the greater community. We seek to develop strong relationships with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, agencies and city departments to advance safety both in and outside the school. We also provide systematic and comprehensive training to all local school council members, as well as citywide resources and support to all parents of CPS students.

Goals

We provide assistance and support in every part of the day-to-day operations of all Local School Councils´ activities. We:

Provide training to all Local School Council members and Parent Advisory Councils (PACs)
Develop and implement greatly expanded communication efforts with all segments of the local school community
Conduct, assess, critique and report on all facets of the LSC Elections held every two years
Increase community and parental involvement at the district and school level

Current initiatives

We have developed a series of initiatives designed to assist parents and the community in the development of our students, such as:

Parent Resource Service Centers
Parent/Community partnerships
Neighborhood safety plan/violence prevention
Community and non-profit organization collaborations

Accomplishments

Here are a few of our accomplishments:

Trained over 6,000 Local School Council members
Local School Council Elections took place in 600 schools
Responded to more than 2,500 service requests in both the Central Office and the Parent Resource Center
Worked with over 100 schools in investigating and facilitating student safety issues
