Overview
High School Programs is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of teaching, learning and educational programs for all Chicago public high schools. It includes five Area Offices, one Military Area Office, four departments, more than 100 high schools and more than 100,000 high school students.
Goals
Our goal is to graduate all students prepared for success in postsecondary education and employment through:
- Developing strategies for closing the achievement gap
- Building curriculum coherence
- Increasing the number of students on track for graduation
- Increasing academic rigor with support
- Providing course planning and literacy-based professional development
Current initiatives
Initiatives for the 2008-2009 academic year include:
- Assisting in establishing Professional Learning Communities in all high schools
- Developing and implementing a K-16 articulation plan
- Increasing the number of students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) courses
- Strengthening the sharing of best practices across all high schools
Accomplishments
- Increased the number of high school graduates
- Increased the number of students matriculating to a college or university of their choice
- Increased the number of students graduating from college
