Operations - Asset Management 

Overview


The Department of Operations - Asset Management is responsible for the physical well being of each CPS facility.  The Department  assists school engineers with the maintenance of the school's mechanical equipment, develops the school's energy management program, provide schools with environmental services and coordinates the landscaping and exterior services for schools.  The Department ensures that each school provides a quality physical environment conducive to learning.

Goals

The Department of Operations - Asset Management's  first and foremost goal is to provide the CPS students with a building that is safe, warm and dry.  The Department's mission is to make a student proud of their school so that each student can concentrate on their studies.  Better buildings make for a better learning environment.   

  • Assist the schools in the day to day physical plant operation of their building to aid the student in their studies.
  • Reduce the energy use of each school while providing a more comfortable classroom
  • Ensure that the exterior of each school instills neighbor pride in the school.  Provide a physical well being to the outside facility of each school; campus parks, sidewalks, parking lots, play lots, etc.
  • Assist the schools to effectively user their building maintenance funding to ensure all money is well spent.
  • Ensure schools are in compliance with environmental rules and regulations

Current initiatives

  • Implement software applications that assist building engineers with the maintenance of the school's mechanical equipment in order to better serve the students.
  • Provide schools with American with Disabilities Act school improvement projects
  • Provide schools with environmental oversight compliance guidance and services
  • Provide schools with Building Automation Systems that enable the schools to better monitor their interior temperature and ventilation
  • Provide school beatification projects through the construction of campus parks

Accomplishment

  • Completed the design specifications for the schools' mechanical equipment maintenance project
  • Completed 19 ADA projects at various schools with 31 additional projects to be competed by September 2008.
  • Successfully assisted school with managing $31 million dollars in building maintenance funds through automated business systems solutions
  • Assisted schools with 506 asbestos and/or lead abetment projects from FY06-FY08
  • Installed over 70 Building Automation Systems throughout the school district.
