Policies and guidelines 

For details on all Chicago Board of Education policies, please visit the CPS Policy handbook website Opens in a new window., where you will find the latest policies adopted by the Board.


These policies are updated within one week after each Board Meeting. However, updates may take up to a period of 30 days before appearing on the website.

Facility Standards

Chicago Public Schools has provided information about its facilities including space utilization performance standards, capital improvement plans and leases.


Capital Plan

Chicago Public Schools released its One- and Five-Year Capital Improvement Plans, highlighted by nearly $110 million in investments for Fiscal Year 2013.

CPS Technical Standards

Chicago Public Schools standards are established by various Board departments, working in collaboration with local, state, and national organizations, as they relate to specific educational areas. These standards reflect requirements and act as guidelines to the Chicago Public Schools, as mandated by of the Board of Education of the City of Chicago.


Computer Hardware Standards are now published on a quarterly basis through the Strategic Sourcing Initiative.

The Chicago Public Schools' Network Management Guidelines define a network infrastructure that provides secure, available, and reliable data for all end-users connected to the Chicago Public Schools' Wide Area Network (WAN).  This document is intended for Technology Coordinators, Network Administrators, Network Engineers, Strategic Sourcing vendors and all others who are responsible for the configuration, management, or support of the CPS network environment.


CPS Infrastructure Standards Handbook, 2006 "Updated October 2012"

The Infrastructure standards manual will be used as a guideline for implementing local area network (LAN) technology at the schools.

Password Guidelines, 2004

To gain access to Chicago Public Schools' (CPS) Instructional (INSTR) and Administrative (ADMIN) domains, which provide access to CPS network resources, all users must adhere to the password requirements and policies as outlined in this document.
