MISSION
To maintain effective communications within the school system and between
the Chicago Public Schools, parents, citizens, and news media. Communicate
the goals, objectives, and accomplishments of the Chicago Public Schools
so that effective public understanding results.
GOALS
- Encourage media stories and provide responses to requests for information
that provide effective public understanding of CPS issues, objectives,
and accomplishments.
- Provide timely and complete responses to requests for information
pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
- Support the individual schools, Board of Education, Office of Chief
Executive Officer and Office of Chief Education Officer, in actively
communicating Board actions, new education policies and procedures,
and CPS programs and information campaign.
- Conduct a survey among Chicago Educator readers in order to ensure
the publication is meeting the objective of communicating substantive
and timely information.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- Provided media training to key CPS personnel to enable them to respond
in a timely and substantive manner to requests for information
- Produced a periodically updated Management Team Progress Summary of
the Reform Board's agenda for structural, financial, and student achievement
improvements.
- Published the bimonthly newspaper, called the Chicago Educator, distributed
4 times per school year to all district employees, public libraries,
the State legislature, print and broadcast media, and other stakeholders
in the Chicago Public Schools
