Go green at Planet Alcott this weekend

Experience family-fun at local school on Saturday, Oct. 17

Enjoy music, refreshments, sports clinics and green activities at this first-ever neighborhood event.

Students at Alcott Elementary School learn how to grow an organic garden.

Going green is cause for celebration at one CPS neighborhood K-12 school this weekend, and you can be part of the event.

Planet Alcott takes place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Alcott School, 2625 N. Orchard.

For just $5 both parents and students can enjoy refreshments, participate in a variety of sports activities, and create organic gardens, while learning about different ways to help the environment.

The yearly event is designed to raise money for the school and support its innovative green initiatives. Sponsors include Wells Fargo – The Private Bank, Home Depot, Motorola, Lettuce Entertain You, and Hinckley & Schmidt.

Green activity participants will receive passports and get “Ki” stamps when an activity is completed. A goody bag is awarded to participants who complete all six activities.

Wondering how to get there? Transportation is not provided, however you can utilize the CTA by taking either the Halsted or Clark bus, or the Brown and Red Line trains (Fullerton stop) to the school. Tickets for the event cost $5. For questions about Planet Alcott, call (773) 534-5460.

Check back with www.cps.edu over the next few weeks to learn more about Alcott’s green event and other special activities taking place at the school this fall.
