During the Chicago Board of Education’s monthly Board Meeting on Oct. 28, CPS announced a new update to its veterans high school diploma program.
Operation Recognition awards diplomas to men and women in the armed services who left high school early to serve their country.
The first part of this law was established in January 2002, to recognize honorably discharged veterans of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Seven years later the law was updated to include honorably discharged Vietnam veterans.
The program, which started in 2002, has awarded more than 180 honorary diplomas to veterans.
