Background:
- The Whitney Young Decathlon team last month captured first place in the Illinois High School Association Decathlon.
- The 2012 U.S. Academic Decathlon national tournament took place in Albuquerque, N.M. this weekend. Whitney Young finished second to the winning team from Granada Hill Charter School in California. Students from schools in 32 states competed.
- Team members include Kathryn Farris, Lucy Zhuo, William Ahrenholz, Anji Bei, Imara McMillan, Audrey Rowe, Riley Kleve, Phoebus Sun Cao, and Gary Mei. Head coach is Elizabeth Pedziwiatr. Assistant coach is David Bell.
