Eight Chicago Public Schools received the Dimon Distinguished Community Schools Award at the Illinois Community Schools Forum, June 2. Ten awards were given, state-wide.
The Dimon Distinguished Community Schools Award recognizes the state-wide community school effort, while focusing attention on 10 stellar Illinois community schools that have exhibited excellence in the development, implementation and proven outcomes of a community school.
Community schooling is the practice of connecting students with social service and community agencies, in order to expand school offerings and provide critical academic and social enrichment activities after-school, in the evening and on the weekends, extending the hours of normal school operation for the benefit of students and their families.
The Dimon Distinguished Community Schools Awards are supported by the JP Morgan Chase Foundation and the James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation. The awards were announced at the Illinois Community Schools Forum, at 725 W. Roosevelt, an event focused on advocacy for and sustainability of community schools across Illinois.
