Two students from Walter Payton College Prep High School, 1034 N. Wells St., accurately predicted the Electoral College vote totals on Election Day: Jordan Nolan, a senior at Payton, and Chris Connolly, a junior at Payton.
The students came up with the exact count in Payton teacher Katherine Chuu’s social studies seminar. In the week before the general election, Chuu divided up her students and had them each research a swing state, looking especially at factors that play into who votes, and who stays home on Election Day.
Students presented their findings to the class. Then, each student in the seminar prepared a forecast and completed maps of their predictions. Nolan and Connolly were right on the money.
Nolan also was among 14 Payton students who traveled to DC to be a part of the inaugural festivities and witness the first session of the 111th Congress on Jan. 21, among other things.
