Healy Elementary honors veterans, police officers and firefighters

School pays tribute to veterans

Veterans Day program pays tribute to veterans, police officers, firefighters and men and women currently serving in the Armed Forces.

The Ensemble of Healy School, a chorus of 60 students in grades 3-8, recited poetry and sang inspirational, patriotic songs to recognize veterans, police officers, firefighters and active duty members of the Armed Forces and their service to both city and country.

The celebration took place on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Robert Healy Elementary, 3001 S. Wallace St.

The theme of the celebration was "America’s Children Remember Heroes Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow." Song selections include “My Country ‘Tis of Thee,” “America the Beautiful” and “Hero.”

The Healy Veteran’s Day program is an annual event initially organized by school staff as a way to honor public safety officials and members of the Armed Forces for their efforts following Sept. 11.
