Chicago Public Schools officials announced today that Joyce Kilmer School, located at 6700 N. Greenview, will open Wednesday, May 6.
Kilmer was the first school to close as a result of the H1N1 swine influenza. Officials made the decision to close Kilmer at the recommendation of the Chicago Department of Public Health. Kilmer was closed as a precaution beginning yesterday after a 12-year-old Kilmer student was determined to have contracted the virus.
CPS officials continue to work in close collaboration with the Chicago Department of Public Health in assessing the situation at Kilmer. District officials are also reviewing attendance data from CPS schools across the city to determine whether any of them are showing unusual variances in their normal attendance patterns and, as needed, contacting families of absent children to seek further information.
