Press Release

CPS Summer School Sessions to Resume Full Operations on Friday, June 29

June 28, 2012

Chicago Public Schools announced today that all regularly scheduled summer school classes will resume full operations tomorrow, Friday, June 29, 2012.

CPS made a decision to close 12 schools today due to the forecast of excessive heat, with temperatures near 100 degrees, during daytime hours. Schools that were closed today included Altgeld, Attucks, Bennett, Courtenay, Faraday, Gregory, Holden, Penn, Stevenson, Harold Washington, Pope, and Jahn.

The District will continue to monitor the heat wave, and CPS urges school communities, parents and students to continue to watch for any breaking announcements on television, radio and the CPS website, Facebook and Twitter. Students are encouraged to come to school in lightweight clothing and bring refillable water bottles to stay cool and keep hydrated.
