Just one day into its Kits for Kidz campaign, CPS today announced that it is on track to surpass the total number of kits sold last year thanks to the contributions of generous supporters. As of 4 p.m. today, more than 1,000 kits have been purchased. Last year, the public contributed more than 1,200 Kits for Kidz for the 2011-2012 school year, totaling more than $15,000 in donations. The campaign allows donors to purchase school supply kits online for CPS students in need.
“Thanks to this overwhelming generosity, many CPS students will be able to start the school year off right with the tools they need to succeed on day one,” said CPS CEO Jean-Claude Brizard. “We still have seven more days to go, so let’s continue this momentum to provide an invaluable resource to families across Chicago.”
Those interested in supporting the Kits for Kidz campaign can visit the Groupon website through Tuesday, August 7 to purchase $11 back to school kits that provide students with a year’s worth of school supplies or an $18 option that will provide a kit and a backpack to a child in need. Contributors can access the website at
Groupon's website.
Partner organizations and CPS will distribute kits to students and families at neighborhood festivals and back to school events.
