Academic and enrichment programs are designed to provide innovative learning experiences for students both inside and outside of the classroom.

CPS is committed to providing a wide range of enrichment opportunities to all of our students. Our programs range from art to language to math and science, and even include our Specialty Academies and Magnet programs. Discover which programs are right for your child.

Academic Decathlon

CPS has the largest number of student participants than any school district in the nation.

Advanced Placement

Motivated high school students have the opportunity to take college-level courses in a high school setting.

Arts Education

Students tap into their creative and artistic skills, and further develop their interest in art, music, dance, and/or drama.

Chicago Debate League

Students learn how to formulate informed opinions and how to communicate them effectively.

Chicago History Advanced Placement Project (CHAPP)

CHAPP is designed to improve instructional strategies and increase the number of students achieving a four or higher on the AP exam.

Early Childhood

All children ages birth through age 8 have equal access to comprehensive, high-quality program options, and support on a developmental continuum.

Global Classroom/Model UN

Students are engaged in an exploration of current world issues through interactive simulations and curricular materials.

Homeschooling

All parents and legal guardians of children between the ages of 7 to 17 who are required by the State of Illinois to attend school can use this educational option.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and Military

Learn the value of citizenship, leadership and service to the community through teamwork and self-discipline.

Language

Parents and students can get language assistance or learn a new language.

Literacy

All students learn the basics of reading: word knowledge, fluency, comprehension, and writing.

Magnet Cluster

These schools specialize in six programmatic areas.

Math and Science

Emphasis is placed on those aspects of knowledge that are most likely to contribute to a student's ability to explain, reason, communicate, and problem solve, using mathematics and science.

Selective Enrollment (SEES/SEHS)

Parents can choose from several programs that meet their child's needs.

Speak Truth to Power (STTP)

32-lesson human rights curriculum that uses the experiences of courageous defenders from around the world to educate students and others about human rights, and urge them to take action.

Specialty Academies

Finance, International Language, and Law and Public Safety are just a few of the Specialty Academies offered by CPS.

Specialty Magnet Programs

Unique programs that range from Agricultural Sciences, Humanities, and Children's Engineering, but only at select schools.
