 Community resources: Get involved

CPS offers a variety of ways for community members to help students, teachers and schools. A few ways community members can get involved is listed below.

Local school councils
Composed of the principal, teachers, parents and community members, they work together to develop the school budget, choose the principal and select the School Improvement Plan for Advancing Academic Achievement (SIPAAA).

Career opportunities
Join CPS and help us become the premier urban school district in the country.

Volunteer opportunities
Volunteers are an important resource for Chicago Public Schools. Whether you prefer a one day project or year-long tutoring, there are a variety of opportunities available.

Community programs
Learn how the Chicago Public Schools operate through the eyes of a teacher or principal. Each year, CPS lets community members see what it’s like to be in charge of a classroom or a school for an entire day with its Principal for a Day and Teacher for a Day programs.
