All parents and community members who want to strengthen their local schools and have a positive impact on student achievement are encouraged to run for their Local School Council (LSC). No experience or formal education is required.
LSC Elections are conducted every two years. The 2012 elections will take place at all elementary schools from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. on April 18. LSC elections take place at all high schools from 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. on April 19.

2012 LSC election forms are available now. Forms are also available at the main office of any Chicago Public School, CPS Network Office, Chicago Public Library, and Local School Council Relations Office, 125 S. Clark, 5th floor. To run for an LSC, download and complete the forms below:
Nomination forms may be filed in person up to 3:00 p.m. on March 1 in the Office of Local School Council Relations, 125 South Clark Street, 5th Floor, and up to 3:00 p.m. on March 8 in the school where you would like to run and serve.
Become an LSC election judge
Interested in serving as a judge during an upcoming 2012 LSC election?
To serve as an LSC Election Judge, applicants are required to:
Complete and submit an Application for Judge of Election to any school, CPS Network Office or the Office of Local School Council Relations.
Once completed, you can submit the Judge Application Form a variety of ways:
- Drop the form off at the school where you would like to serve;
- Drop the form off at any CPS Network Office;
- Mail the form to, or drop it off at, the Office of Local School Council Relations, 125 South Clark Street, 5th Floor, Chicago, IL 60603.
- Forms must be postmarked or dropped off at any of the above locations by 3 p.m. on March 9

Complete a 2-hour training program.

Election/ Appointment of LSC members
The school principal is automatically a member of the LSC. Parent representatives and community representatives are elected by the parents and community members or appointed by the Local School Council. Teacher representatives and non-teaching staff representatives are appointed by the Board following a preference poll of all full-time school staff. High School student representatives are also appointed by the Board following a preference poll of the students at the school.
LSC terms
Parent, community, teacher and non-teaching staff representatives serve a two-year term beginning July 1 after each election and ending June 30 two years later. Student representatives serve a one-year term beginning July 1 and ending June 30 of the following year.
