Summer activities

Chicago Public Schools is offering a variety of educational and leadership opportunities for students of all ages this summer. Here’s a list of the programs that may still have spots available:

Summer jobs

CPS has partnered with Youth Ready Chicago, Mayor Daley’s summer jobs program, to help students look for work this summer. Approximately 3,000 students will be employed at schools, non-profit organizations and companies. Students interested in summer employment should register on youthreadychicago.org before July 6.

2009 Elementary Sports Camp

CPS Summer Sports Camps will take place from July 1-July 30. Registration for these camps is ongoing. Approximately 5,000 students can attend and will participate in sports such as basketball, football, golf, soccer, wrestling, tennis, track and field and volleyball. There are more than 20 sports being offered at more than 40 locations around the city. To sign up,  download the application and submit it to the Sports Department. For questions about the camps or application process, call (773) 535-8040.

Community School programs

This program provides academic and cultural enrichment as well as social support for students and their families before, during and after the school day. Programming varies at each CPS Community Schools site. Parents may contact their local community school to learn more about what is being offered this summer and how to sign up. For more information and to view a list of community schools contact Extended Learning Opportunities.
