High school
Summer classes
Almost all high schools are offering summer school courses this year. The summer high school program focuses on recovering core subject-area credit for all students in grades 9-12. Classes run from June 15-August 14. (Please check with your child’s school for specific dates and class times.) All high schools are expected to have summer school and/or a summer program. Elementary school
Summer school programs for grades three, six, and eight
These programs consist of focused instruction in reading and mathematics and are designed for students who do not meet minimum criteria for promotion to the next grade. After summer school ends, an evaluation criterion is applied and successful students are promoted. Summer Bridge
The promotion status of eighth grade students is subject to a new writing requirement this year. There will be a separate writing workshop for eighth grade students who have not satisfactorily met this requirement. Freshman Connection
This five-week program for graduating 8th grade students runs four days a week starting June 22. Academic instruction will be offered in the morning and recreational activities will be offered in the afternoon at no cost to the students. The program runs Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. For questions about Freshman Connection call (773) 553-2108.
