Reading List: Grade 3-4

In grades 3-4, students are focusing more on developing their reading skills. At this grade level, students will do more than just read books in the classroom; they’ll be asked to read aloud, act out scenes, write about what they read, and begin discussing books based on their thoughts and ideas.

Even though your child is growing up, it’s important that you continue to read with your child. When reading together let your child see the words, and don't be afraid to talk aloud about the book that you read together. If you think something is funny, strange or interesting, be sure to share those comments with your child.

Summer is a great time to begin developing reading rituals with your child. Take 30 minutes out of every day to sit down and read one of our recommended books together. Most of these books are available at your local public library for free. To check out any of these books all you need to have is a library card. Click on the links below to learn more about each book or download the  2009 summer reading list.
