Reading List: Pre-K - Kindergarten

Students in the Pre-K-kindergarten age group are learning to read and write for the first time, and it’s a skill that, once developed, will last a lifetime.

As a parent, you can help your child develop his or her reading skills in a variety of ways. Start by reading with your child at least once every day. Find books that appeal to his or her interests, and try to incorporate reading into everyday activities.

Summer is a great time to begin developing reading rituals with your child. Take 30 minutes out of every day to sit down and read one of our recommended books together. Most of these books are available at your local public library for free. To check out any of these books all you need to have is a library card. Click on the links below to learn more about each book or download the  2009 summer reading list.
