When fall comes around there’s at least one sport the City of Chicago is always ready for: football. CPS schools hit the gridiron every fall ready to take on opponents both new and old across the entire District.
Our football program is divided into 11 conferences: Six teams in each of the four Illini Conferences; eight teams in each of the four Chicago Conferences; eight teams in two Inter-City Conferences; and four teams in Inter-City 3 Conference.

Rules and regulations
It’s important for both parents and students to know, and abide by all the rules and regulations set forth by CPS and the National Federation of State High School Associations. These rules are designed to ensure that every team has a fair chance to participate, and to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance at our games.

State playoffs
P
layoff season began Friday, Oct. 30, and will end on Friday, Nov. 27 at the state championship game. An invitation to the state playoffs is extended only to teams who qualify based on their regular season win-loss record.
Divisions are based on enrollment classes that range between 1A-8A schools, with 8A being the largest schools in the District.
The playoffs use a single elimination format meaning that one loss equals elimination. At the end of the playoffs a state champion is crowned in each class.
Playoff tickets are currently being sold by participating schools for $5 each. Details about the championship game will be announced soon.
