The Boys Swimming & Diving season begins in November.
There are approximately 33 schools that compete in five sections throughout the city. Each school participates in head-to-head competition against schools in their sections and against neighboring schools.
All the schools meet at least once per year during the Citywide Relays. The Sophomore City Championship and the Varsity City Championship meets also take place each year.
Swimming
There are four different strokes in competitive swimming: the backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and the front crawl.
To score points during swim meets, student athletes must demonstrate expertise in all of the aforementioned strokes. Each point goes toward winning the City Championship.
Once the regular season ends, City and State tournaments take place on both the individual and team level. At the state tournament, winners are determined based on qualifying times. The Boys State Championship takes place each February.
Rules and regulations
It’s important for both parents and students to know, and abide by all the rules and regulations set forth by CPS and the National Federation of State High School Associations. These rules are designed to ensure that every team has a fair chance to participate, and to ensure the safety of everyone in attendance at our games.
Join the team
Students interested in playing sports should contact the Athletic Coordinator at their school. Your school should be able to provide more information about eligibility and team tryouts.
