NCLB Transfer Program

Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), Chicago Public Schools is required to provide students at our lowest performing schools with the option to transfer into another school.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) measures the performance of each school in reading and math and determines whether the school made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Schools that do not make AYP for at least two years in a row are designated as “School Improvement” schools under NCLB.

NCLB states that students attending select elementary schools or select high schools have the right to apply to transfer to another select group of schools that is not currently involved in School Improvement.

Transfer process

Applications for the 2011-2012 NCLB Choice Program are currently available for eligible students. To determine if your student is eligible, download the list of sending schools  here. Applications are available at the school's main office and are due Friday, December 17, 2010.
