New Teachers Summer Academy

New teachers, welcome to the Chicago Public Schools.

Barbara Eason-WatkinsCPS has recently expanded its partnership with the Chicago New Teacher Center (CNTC), the Chicago office of the nationally renowned New Teacher Center.

CNTC has an extensive background in new teacher induction, and will be providing you with:

  • A coach to support you in your classroom
  • Targeted professional development
  • Study groups
  • Networking opportunities with other new teachers
  • An online community

These supports will help you smoothly transition into your new and exciting profession.

The first part of your journey will place you with hundreds of other new teachers at our New Teachers Summer Academy. CPS is deeply committed to investing in our new teachers, and this two-day summer academy is just the beginning.

Welcome aboard, I wish you lots of luck and future success!

Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins
Chief Education Officer

Overview

The Chicago New Teacher Center will kick off your year-long induction experience with a two-day summer orientation that focuses on the challenges and rewards of working in an urban setting. You will start to build a network with your new colleagues as you deepen your understanding of the students you will meet, and begin planning for the creation of a classroom community. You will also receive an overview of all the supports you will receive throughout the year.

Eligibility

If you answer yes to both of the following questions you are eligible to attend our two-day summer orientation.

1. Were you just hired for your first full-time teaching position?
2. Is this your first year as a certified teacher on an initial certificate?

To check your certificate status, please visit the Illinois State Board of Education ISBE Educator Certification System Opens in a new window icon.
