Overview
The Chicago New Teacher Center will kick off your first-year of teaching with a two-day summer orientation that focuses on the challenges and rewards of working in an urban setting. You will connect with other new teachers from across the city at this active and engaging 1.5-day orientation. Participants will learn about:
- Building a classroom environment that supports learning
- Connecting with parents and communities
- The phases new teachers experience and how to navigate them
Eligibility
If you answer yes to both of the following questions you are eligible to attend our two-day summer orientation.
1. Were you just hired for your first full-time teaching position?
2. Is this your first year as a certified teacher on an initial certificate?

If you have questions about your eligibility, please email newteachers@chicagontc.org, and be sure to include your name and the school at which you were hired.
Please note: Participants will not be compensated for their attendance.
Summer session information
The New Teacher Summer Academy will take place at the Chicago New Teacher Center, 320 N. Elizabeth Street, Second Floor, Chicago, IL 60607. CPS parking lot is located at the corners of Fulton and Ada.
The two-day session will be on:
Monday, August 30, 2010, 8:30am - 3:00pm and Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 8:30am - Noon

Participation is strongly recommended for all those new to the profession of teaching. Members of the following pipeline programs, AUSL, TFA, CTF, and ICTC, are welcome but not required to attend.
