Alternative Education and Transition 

Alternative Education and Transition programs work to reduce the dropout rate through prevention and credit recovery options, and assist dropouts in their efforts to return to school.

 

 

Achievement Academies
Two-year program for over-aged students who have not met the promotion criteria to enter high school.

 

Alternative Learning Opportunities Program (ALOP)
Select schools offer personalizedre-entry options to students aged 17-21 who have become disengaged from the school system.

 

Alternative Safe Schools
Students temporarily removed from school for behavioral violations can continue to receive credits for their studies.

 

Jobs for Illinois Graduates (JILG)
Dropout prevention program.

 

Juvenile Justice Information Center
The center supports students by providing multiple options upon release from the juvenile justice system.

 

Saturday Morning Alternative Reach-Out and Teach (SMART) program
Students who are expelled from school for violating the CPS Student Code of Conduct don’t have to fall behind in their coursework. This program provides an educational alternative.
