Evening High School 

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Evening High School Programs is designed to provide both active and inactive students, who are age 17-21, with the academic coursework required to earn a high school diploma.

 

 

Evening High Schools began as a pilot project in January 1999 to provide options for students who had dropped out or were at risk of not completing high school. Today, the program is available at PDF icon. 27 locations across the district and serves a diverse population of students. Last year, more than 4,000 students received their high school diplomas due to their participation in the Evening High School Programs.

Overview

Course offerings vary by location and are available in the evenings and on Saturdays to provide flexible options for students wishing to recover credits or resolve schedule conflicts. Taught by highly qualified and certified teachers, the courses cover core content in a variety of subjects including English, science, mathematics, social studies and foreign languages

Enrollment

Active students require a referral from a school counselor and a copy of their high school transcript to enroll in an NCLB Evening High School. Inactive students may register at Bogan, Dunbar, Farragut, Harlan, Roosevelt, and Schurz HS but should report the last school attended to ensure proper course selection for graduation. Students planning to participate in the credit recovery program must meet the minimum criteria below:

 

  • Must be a CURRENT CPS student (this includes any student from CPS alternative, charter, and contract schools)
  • Have signed referral by counselor with identified course(s) needed for recovery
  • Have a copy of transcript with indicated failed course identified
  • Inactive students may only attend schools identified as schools hosting a credit recovery program for inactive students (Bogan, Dunbar, Farragut, Harlan, Roosevelt, and Schurz HS); inactive students must be accompanied with a signed referral and transcript

 

No student may register without proper documentation
