A. CPS STEM schools are different than other schools because there is an explicit focus on developing the knowledge, skills, habits, and experiences for success in STEM career pathways. STEM schools should emphasize an awareness of post-secondary STEM options and out-of-school experiences that engage and motivate them in learning about STEM topics. The electives, clubs, competitions, and extra-curricular offerings will reflect an emphasis on STEM learning.
Strong instruction in science, technology, engineering, and math is essential to preparing students for success in any STEM Field. The program of study includes the following:
- More minutes in math and science than the state requirements
- Engineering integrated within courses, but also offered as a standalone course
- Computer Science is offered to all students
