Application Procedures for Elementary

We know that selecting an elementary school for your child is one of the most important decisions a parent can make. As CPS continues to offer more and more options for parents, we are confident that you will find a school that is the best match for your child.

An application is required for schools outside of your neighborhood attendance boundary. If you are interested in charter schools, you will need to contact the school directly to obtain an application.

Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply to any school including those that require testing. Remember: an application is not required if the student plans to attend his or her neighborhood school

Standard Elementary Application

The Standard Elementary Schools application is used to apply to elementary magnet, magnet cluster, and open enrollment schools. You can apply online at www.apply.cps.edu or you can use a paper application, accessible at www.cpsoae.org (click 'Apply' and 'Application Materials'). The application period begins each year on October 1st and ends in mid-December. You may apply to up to 20 schools on a single application. Students are selected through a computerized lottery, and parents are notified in March regarding the results. Additional information can be found at www.cpsoae.org.

Please note: acceptance is not guaranteed upon submission of an application.

The Standard Elementary Schools application does not apply to charter schools, Regional Gifted Centers, Academic Centers, Classical Schools, or International Gifted programs. To apply to these schools, complete the Selective Enrollment Elementary Schools application.
