Application procedures for high school 

In a system with more than 100,000 high school students and more than 100 high schools, it can be difficult to find the school that fits your child’s needs. As CPS continues to offer more and more options for parents, we are confident that you will find a school that is the best match for your child.

Choose

An application may be required for some CPS schools and programs. The Selective Enrollment/Military Academies application is needed to apply to the Selective Enrollment schools and all of the Military Academies. Parents can apply online at www.apply.cps.edu Opens in a new window icon; download and print and application from cps.edu; pick up an an application from any Selective Enrollment school; or request that an application be mailed to you from the Office of Academic Enhancement at (773) 553-2060.

 

There are some schools that have their own applications such as Charter schools.  If you are interested in those schools, you will need to contact the school directly to obtain an application.


Students with disabilities are encouraged to apply to any school including those that require testing. If accommodations for testing are required, as indicated in the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan, please contact the Office of Specialized Services at 773-553-1800


Remember: an application is not required if the student plans to attend his or her neighborhood school.

Complete the Standard High School application

  1. The PDF icon Standard High Schools application can be used for any schools or programs that list the "Standard application" under Admissions on their profile. It is also available in PDF icon Spanish.
  2. If you wish to receive a notification from the school once your application has been received, please include a self-addressed, stamped postcard. Be sure to write the name of the school on the card. If your card is not returned within two weeks (after submission of the application), please contact the school.
  3. To apply to more than one school, copy the applications as needed and submit one application per student, per school.

    Please note: acceptance is not guaranteed upon submission of an application. You are encouraged to apply to all of the schools that interest you. There is no limit to the number of schools to which you may apply.

    The Standard High School Application does not apply to Charter schools. Selective Enrollment High Schools, Military Academies, or College and Career Academies.

    Selective Enrollment and Military Academies
    The Selective Enrollment and Military Academies application and admissions process is open to current 8th grade students.

    An entrance exam and/or interview is required. Eligibility to take the entrance examination is based on the student's 7th grade scores on a nationally-normed standardized test in reading and mathematics.
