| Overview |
Shoesmith School is located in the historic Hyde Park/Kenwood Community. The school, a Mathematics and Science Magnet Cluster School, was named after a prominent Hyde Park math teacher. It continues in its namesake's tradition by offering students a rich blend of academic programs utilizing a balanced literacy framework, Everyday Math and F.O.S.S. Science. In addition, we include Spanish, choir, general music, and band in our weekly program. The AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is implemented in grades 4 to 6. We participate in the Experencia Project, Battle of the Books, Winning Words (a University of Chicago Initiative), Young Authors, the M.A.P.S and Museum Connections Program to name a few. We enjoy partnerships with the University of Chicago, St. Paul and the Redeemer, Junior Achievement, the Chicago Park District, Merit School of Music, the Hyde Park Art Center and the First Baptist Church.
