Overview

Kelvyn Park High School's mission is to offer a personalized, world-class education in a community-centered environment. Students benefit from state-of-the-art science and computer labs, a college resource center, and a full-time college counselor. Students participate in Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), GEAR UP, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC), Work Experience Cooperative Education Program (WECEP). AVID targets students in the academic middle to succeed in a rigorous curriculum and a college preparatory path. Advanced Placement (AP) classes are offered in 15 subjects. A federal grant was awarded in 2008-09 for Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) and Freshmen Academies. As a true community school, Kelvyn Park offers adult classes in English and computer literacy.

Through an all-school effort, Kelvyn Park seniors have been awarded over a million dollars in scholarships for the fifth school year in a row. Kelvyn Park attained national recognition, HUB school status, for their student development program that prides itself on students making a difference in our school, to others, to oneself and for the future.

As of 2008-2009, there were 1455 students enrolled at Kelvyn Park HS. 95.8% were low income Students. 16.1% were Special Education Students. 14.1% were Limited English Learners. As of 2008-2009, the largest demographic at Kelvyn Park HS was Hispanic. As of that time, this demographic made up 89.8% of the student population. The second greatest demographic was Black at 8.0%.
