Overview

Schurz High School's motto "A Block Long, But Worldwide" reflects the school's diversity. Schurz prepares students for today's technological and global society and hosts four academies: Two College & Career Academies, the Fine and Performing Arts Magnet Program and the World Language Global Studies Academy. Students have won numerous awards. College & Career Academies are offered in Business and Automotive Technology. Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in biology, calculus, economics, English, environmental science, and Spanish. Honors-level courses are available. Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) is available for interested students.

Carl Schurz High School has served the Northwest Side community for 96 years. The building itself is a historical landmark. Students of all ethnic backgrounds who attend Schurz receive an outstanding education, graduate, and become successful citizens of the world.
Statistics Demographics
As of 2008-2009, there were 2187 students enrolled at Schurz HS. 94.6% were low income Students. 18.4% were Special Education Students. 10.5% were Limited English Learners. As of 2008-2009, the largest demographic at Schurz HS was Hispanic. As of that time, this demographic made up 81.3% of the student population. The second greatest demographic was White at 8.2%.
