Overview

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, Clemente Community Academy, founded in 1892, has been a successful CPS small schools initiative with five Smaller Learning Communities (SLC) academies: International Studies Prep; Journalism, Communications and Law; Math, Science and Technology; Military; and Achievement Academy. SLC teachers focus on team teaching and personalized learning. Clemente is an EXCELerator school with the College Board and AVID. Advanced Placement (AP) classes are offered in English, Spanish, U.S. History, calculus, chemistry and physics. Clemente consults with Princeton Review for assessment services and offers Career and Technical Eeducation (CTE) clusters in information technology, culinary arts, architectural drafting, and carpentry. Clemente has partnerships with Northeastern Illinois University, Norwegian American Hospital, and Erie Family Health Center.

In 2005, Clemente was named a national "Promising School" by the Council of Chief State School Officers for successfully organizing and sustaining Smaller Learning Communities. Clemente was nominated as a U.S. Department of Education Design Studio in 2008. In 2009, Clemente ranked 25th of Illinois schools with National Board Certified teachers.
Statistics Demographics
As of 2008-2009, there were 1588 students enrolled at Clemente HS. 95.1% were low income Students. 20.3% were Special Education Students. 7.3% were Limited English Learners. As of 2008-2009, the largest demographic at Clemente HS was Hispanic. As of that time, this demographic made up 63.4% of the student population. The second greatest demographic was Black at 34.5%.
