Overview
|
James Otis Elementary is a Magnet Cluster School offering world language programs in Spanish, Italian, and Latin. We have space available and accept applications for student enrollment from outside the attendance area. Our academic focus is centered on providing literature-based instruction, second language acquisition, multicultural studies, and an integrated arts-rich curriculum. In addition to its outstanding programs, Otis is proudly recognized as a school that fully integrates special needs students. We offer bilingual programming for English language learners, as well as integrative programming for visually impaired and autistic students. Otis boasts two computer labs and internet access via a high speed wireless network. The school's partners include National-Louis University, University of Chicago, DePaul University, New Leaders for New Schools, West-Town Leadership United, Family Focus, Youth Connections, Chicago Botanic Gardens, Stern Joint Venture LP, Erie Neighborhood House, and CareerBuilder.

The school campus houses a Victorian (1879) building modernized by ADA accommodations, state-of-the-art mobile computer labs, a lush seasonal garden, a tot play lot, ample field house, soccer and softball fields. Otis School offers a student-centered curriculum meeting the needs of each student while continuing to trend upward in academic excellence.
