Overview
|
Sherman is the first turn-around school of its kind; a school that closed and re-opened the following school year with the same students but new faculty, staff and leadership. The Chicago Public Schools selected the Academy of Urban School Leadership (AUSL), which has a strong record of performance in its current schools (Chicago Academy, Dodge and Tarkington), to operate Sherman which opened in the fall of 2006. Sherman School is a 21st Century Community Learning Center offering programs and opportunities to students, families, and the community before, during and after school hours. Extended day/after school classes are held daily, and include two art enrichment programs, dance class, African drumming, band, praise dance, college exploration trips, life skills classes and parent workshops. The diverse extended-day activities provide children with cultural experiences that are unique, fun and educational.
