Overview

Our school was born out of a historical community struggle. In 2001, 14 courageous parents and community members waged a 19-day hunger strike for a quality education. The values of social justice, peace, self-determination, community participation, and empowerment inform our schools.

The School of Social Justice ensures that all students become critical thinkers through a curriculum that is rigorous, innovative, and implemented through meaningful school relationships. Curriculum taught through the lens of race, gender, culture, economic equity, peace, justice, and the environment is the catalyst for what our students explore.
Statistics Demographics
As of 2008-2009, there were 356 students enrolled at Sch Of Social Justice HS. 99.2% were low income Students. 11.8% were Special Education Students. 9.0% were Limited English Learners. As of 2008-2009, the largest demographic at Sch Of Social Justice HS was Hispanic. As of that time, this demographic made up 83.1% of the student population. The second greatest demographic was Black at 16.3%.
