Overview

Dr. Jorge Prieto Math and Science is a GREEN SCHOOL!!! Our green status drives student inquiry and helps to develop year-long projects where students develop a greater appreciation and understanding of their community and environment. At Prieto Academy we have implemented the Everyday Math Program, Balanced Literacy Approach and FOSS/STC and SEPUP Science curriculum all of which provide our students with hands-on, student centered learning experiences.

We strongly believe in developing community partnerships and providing extracurricular activities to enhance our students' experiences. We are currently working with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a three year partnership and have also received a grant through the Illinois Clean Energy Foundation to have solar panels installed.
Statistics Demographics
As of 2008-2009, there were 799 students enrolled at Prieto Math & Sci. 94.9% were low income Students. 12.9% were Special Education Students. 28.8% were Limited English Learners. As of 2008-2009, the largest demographic at Prieto Math & Sci was Hispanic. As of that time, this demographic made up 93.1% of the student population. The second greatest demographic was Black at 4.6%.
