Raising the Bar: The Common Core State Standards

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) describe what students are expected to learn at every grade level in order to be prepared for success in college and careers. Adopted by 44 states, including Illinois, CCSS is designed to be relevant to the real world and help students succeed in a global economy.

Chicago Public Schools is beginning to transition to CCSS in 2011-12 and will fully implement in the 2014-15 school year, when the state assessment will also be aligned to assess CCSS.

We invite you to learn more about these standards and how CPS is planning to implement them in the coming years. If you have an questions, please e-mail us at commoncore@cps.edu.
