A Message from the Principal

Located in the vibrant Pullman community on the South Side of Chicago, Wendell Smith Elementary School is a cornerstone of the local educational landscape. Serving grades PK-8, the school is committed to providing a high-quality education that empowers students to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. Wendell Smith strives to create a learning environment that celebrates diversity, fosters academic achievement, and supports the development of the whole child.

Our dedicated team of educators and staff work collaboratively to create a nurturing atmosphere where students are challenged to reach their full potential. Through innovative instructional practices, a focus on personalized learning, and strong community engagement, we aim to develop critical thinkers, effective communicators, and compassionate citizens. Wendell Smith offers a variety of programs, including a robust afterschool initiative, STEAM-focused events, and a commitment to ensuring all students have access to the tools and resources they need for success.

As part of our ongoing commitment to improvement, Wendell Smith is actively working to enhance teacher professional development, implement data-driven instructional strategies, and build stronger partnerships with families and the community. With a strong emphasis on SEL (social-emotional learning) and an unwavering dedication to equity, Wendell Smith is working to shape future leaders who will thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
