Decarla Jackson
Lead Coach
I have been the Lead Coach at World Language High School for four years, though my leadership journey began much earlier. Before this role, I served as a coach with the High School Transformation Program (IDS) and the Office of Teaching and Learning. For years, as a classroom teacher at Bogan High School, I found myself naturally mentoring and coaching new teachers, which eventually led my then administrator to ask me to provide formal support to members of the staff.

Trenton Voss
School-Based New Teacher Mentor
I have been with the New Teacher Mentor program for three years now. I am proud to support new teachers as this partnership helps me remember what my first year teaching was like, and the difference in experiences a teacher can have when a support system is in place as they take on the role of educator for the very first time. Being a New Teacher Mentor has made me feel accomplished and validated as a member of our Instructional Leadership Team and also helps me stay connected to our school's continuous improvement plan.

Kathleen Adamski
Instructional Team Coach
Supporting both students and educators in the Lead Coach role and now the Instructional Team Coach (ITC) role has brought great joy to my professional day to day life. What I love most is collaborating with colleagues—sharing strategies, reflecting on practice, and looking for ways to increase student engagement and achievement.

LaShaun Woodland
School-Based New Teacher Mentor
I was selected by my administration last year. I have been with the program for two years now. I have also held the position of being a part of the ILT team at my school, as well as being on the LSC. It has been an honor and privilege to support the new teachers that have joined our school staff. -

Kimberly Payne
Resident Mentor
Two years ago, I proactively decided to apply for the resident teacher program, recognizing that the full-year commitment offered a more robust model for new teacher success than traditional student teaching. My dedication to leadership is broad, encompassing critical roles within the school community, including OST Coordinator, SCORE Liaison, Union Delegate, LSC member and NEIU CHISTEM mentoring program. These roles allow me to organize impactful student opportunities and effectively support my colleagues. -

Sarah Kelly
School-Based New Teacher Mentor
At 22 years old and new to Chicago, my first case manager at Chicago Military Academy took the time to guide me through my first IEP. Her support made the process feel less intimidating and more impactful. Twenty-some years later, I helped my mentee navigate her first IEP in a full-circle moment. I want to continue to pay this mentorship forward, ensuring no teacher faces classroom challenges alone. I started my career as a school-based mentor five years ago and have been a participant in the district mentor program for the past four years.

Teaching is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences, but without the proper support, the challenges can outweigh the rewards. As a mentor, I love being able to support new teachers through these challenges and watching them—and their students—experience those rewards.
