Celebrating Exceptional Leadership in Englewood

Students and staff at Charles W. Earle STEM Elementary hosted a surprise celebration for Principal Regina Latimer-Lake, named the 2026 Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association. This award honors outstanding school leaders who improve student learning, foster positive school climates, and positively impact their communities.

Principal Latimer-Lake has dedicated more than 20 years to serving Chicago Public Schools as a teacher and school leader. Since becoming principal of Earle, she has helped it become a true gem on Chicago's South Side.

Under Principal Latimer-Lake’s leadership, Earle has added a brand new playground, Curiosity Room, and Maker Lab, creating a learning environment that helps students explore their passions and reach their full potential. The school’s curriculum is rigorous, culturally relevant, and engaging. Its focus on STEM helps students develop strong critical thinking skills, creativity, and collaboration, ensuring they are ready to succeed in high school, college, and beyond.

In addition, Earle models how to create and grow impactful relationships and partnerships that support student success. For example, the school works with the Englewood Community Action Council to build bonds between the school and the larger Englewood community, making Earle a true pillar in this neighborhood.
