Miley has become a vital support system in her classroom, and Kamila is known as a “pillar” of the school community.

Meet Miley and Kamila, two members of the Prieto Elementary School Class of 2026! Both students are recognized not only for their outstanding academic performances but also for their exceptional leadership qualities.
Miley has become a vital support system in her classroom, while Kamila is known as a “pillar” of the school, as they step up to assist their teacher and classmates when possible, often without being asked. They inspire their peers through their disciplined work ethic and passion for service and helping others. Some of their favorite memories at Prieto include school pep rallies, emphasizing their appreciation for community and overall school unity.
After graduating from Prieto Elementary, Miley will be attending Northside College Prep, and Kamila will be attending Jones College Prep. They have already left a lasting impact on their peers and school community throughout their academic careers, and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish in high school. Get to know them more below!
What are your interests both inside and outside of the classroom?
Miley: In the classroom, I love reading. It excites me, and I enjoy reading different genres, including fantasy, romance, and dystopian novels. Outside of school, I play soccer and volleyball.
Kamila: In the classroom, I like learning about math. Outside of school, I’m on a swim team and a water polo club.
What will you miss the most about Prieto?
Miley: I will miss my classmates and teachers! I’ve known most of my classmates since kindergarten and have grown up with them, so I’ll miss them a lot.
Kamila: What I will miss the most about Prieto are all the small moments with friends! Everybody here knows each other very well and is very supportive, which I will miss.
Is there a teacher at Prieto whom you know you’ll always remember?
Miley: My 6th-grade science teacher, Ms. Durnic. Her class was challenging, but it pushed me to look at things differently to better understand them.
Kamila: Mr. Davis, because he has such a calm demeanor and taught us so much in the short time we had together. He’s a great teacher who always supported us whenever we were stressed with school.
How do you feel about starting High School in the fall, and what are you looking forward to?
Miley: I’m excited for High School, to make new friendships and gain more independence. I’m looking forward to playing volleyball, soccer, or anything new that catches my attention.
Kamila: I feel a little nervous to leave Prieto and meet new people, but I also think it’ll be a nice fresh start. I’m excited for high school because I feel like it’ll help me grow and be more independent. I look forward to joining the swimming and water polo team.
What advice would you give to future 8th graders at Prieto?
Miley: Enjoy every moment in 8th-grade! This year has gone by quickly for me, but all the memories will stay forever.
Kamila: I would tell future 8th graders to pay attention in class and take their teacher's advice. What they teach you will give you such a great perspective on life. Also, to study before tests!
