Strategies & Supports
-
Push-in Support
SOAR specialists visit collaborating schools weekly to offer mentoring and advocacy for students on their caseloads. The goal is to intervene and stabilize students who are at risk of dropping out.
-
Pull-out Workshops
For students who have dropped out, a workshop is provided to help students reacclimate to the routine of daily school attendance and engagement. After a workshop, SOAR will help determine the best learning situation for the student, which may include credit recovery or re-enrollment in their home school or an Options school.
-
School Referrals
Schools can request support via the completion of the referral form. Students who participate in SOAR through the recommendation of a school must stay on the school’s roster. It is critical that collaborating schools utilize SOAR with the expectation that students will return and re-establish their place at their high school. Students DO NOT get removed for participation in SOAR.
-
Credit Recovery
Credit recovery is offered through SOAR, however, SOAR is a re-engagement program, not a credit recovery program. To that end, students who are participating in SOAR can earn credits, if deemed appropriate, at the time of the re-engagement plan.
-
Miscellaneous Outreach
SOAR also conducts miscellaneous outreach for students who have 10 consecutive absences at the high school level.

Please note:
- Referring a student for SOAR program support does not eliminate a school’s responsibility for continued collaboration in support of the student.
- SOAR is an optional, not mandatory program. Students and their families, if below 18, have to commit to the program. If a student and their family do not commit, SOAR cannot enroll them as a participating student.
- Communication with the school designee as to whether a student has committed to the program, and then subsequently, regular reports regarding student progress, will be provided.
