CPS Success Bound

The CPS Success Bound Curriculum is the College and Career Competency Curriculum (C4) designed by CPS. The curriculum is the culmination of the Office of School Counseling and Postsecondary Advising’s (OSCPA) relentless pursuit to ensure that every CPS graduate develops the knowledge and applied skills necessary to succeed in both their postsecondary pathway and in their future career. In order for a district wide curriculum to accomplish this ambitious goal, the curriculum is grounded in CPS-designed, industry-vetted student competencies. These competencies are the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that students need to successfully access and persist in their postsecondary pathways.

Based on adolescent development and historical experience, the 47 student competencies are vertically aligned throughout grades 6-12. This means about 14-17 competencies are prioritized and focused on in every grade to ensure student mastery of the specific competencies. To see which competencies are prioritized in which grade level, view the C4 Grade Level Competency Map.

The CPS Success Bound Curriculum includes:

  • Daily lesson plans with educator instructions and prep notes
  • Student-facing playlists
  • Worksheets and activities
  • Teacher tips and resources to support further learning/exploration of topics

As with all Skyline resources, these materials can be easily added to Google Classroom.

Due to the extensiveness of the materials, the curriculum supports all school staff in postsecondary instruction. In fact, the CPS Success Bound Curriculum encourages collaboration among all school staff in this Tier 1 support in order to be more impactful. Additional lesson supports include recommendations for differentiating learning experiences, content background knowledge to support teachers, SEL recommendations specific to activities, graphic organizers for students and teachers, among many other things. For questions on the curricula and how to best implement it at your school, please contact your college and career specialist (HS), your school counseling specialist (ES) as well as Tony Petraitis (C4 Specialist) at arpetraitis@cps.edu.
