Course Overview
In Skyline Social Science Grade 2: Families, Neighborhoods, and Communities, children are given the tools to investigate who they are and the community and world around them through the lenses of history, geography, economy, and government. In each unit, they will explore how people share similarities and differences with others in communities near and far. Learners are encouraged to explore how communities face different challenges in meeting their needs and wants. They will learn about ways in which people interact with the world around them and explore ways they can impact their own world, including their classroom, family, and community.

Introducing the Revised Skyline Social Science Curriculum
Starting in Fall 2026, new units will be posted in Safari Montage, linked to here. Timing will allow teachers to review and backwards plan.
Expect stronger alignment to the CPS Social Science Culturally Responsive Inquiry Arc Framework, a cross-disciplinary approach with Skyline ELA, and improvements based on teacher and student feedback.
