Course Overview

This course covers major topics in ancient, medieval and early modern world history from the beginning of civilization to the age of exploration. The course examines how geography shapes societies and cultures of Southwest Asia (the Middle East), South Asia, East Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe, and how political, social and economic systems develop and change over time. Students will explore the spread of civilizations, and how the encounters and interactions between them influenced the development of human society. Through this study, students will have a better understanding of how ancient history has influenced religions, cultures and societies of today. Students will make connections of how this history and these cultures influence people’s identities as well as their own.
